Welcome to the new Challenger Middle School PTSA Newsletter! It's hard to believe November is already upon us. The holidays will be here before we know it! We are working hard on keeping you up to date - feel free to contact us with any updates for your group! In the meantime, have a great/safe Halloween!
CAREER FAIR SUCCESS

I'd just like to send a great BIG THANK YOU to the PTA for a very successful 1st Career Fair on Oct. 20th! Also, Student-Led Conferences are being planned for November 14th and 15th. More information coming soon!

- Ms. Yvonne Holmes, Ed. S., Professional School Counselor

The Hospitality Committee would like to send a special thanks to our friends at Publix and Walmart for their generous donations for the Career Fair!
GIVING THANKS
We are collecting food donations for the Thanksgiving food box. For more information on how you can help, please contact Lakechia Martin.
Please save your soda pop tabs. Mrs. Hunziker's homeroom is collecting them to help the Ronald McDonald House Charities. We will have a homeroom contest later in the school year but please start saving them now. Thank you!
ADVENTURES IN CYBERLAND
Challenger has a record number of Cyber Security teams this year with 7. They are preparing for the Air Force Association’s Cyber Patriot IX Round 1 competition on Veterans Day weekend. Students are preparing in class as well as before and after school. Wish them luck as they strive to make it to finals in Baltimore against the record 4300 teams from across the US, Canada and US military locations abroad!
POWER UP!
Challenger now has 2 Greenpower race cars! Both the Challenger Eagles and the Rocketeers will be entering the inaugural Jaguar Classic at Jemison High School on November 11th and 12th. Teams from all over the city and other area school districts as well as 2 Goblin teams from China and a high school team from Scotland will compete in races all day on the 12th after presentations and scrutineering on the 11th. Come join the fun and considering joining the class next year!

Challenger Middle Math Team

Challenger Middle School Math Team is comprised of highly motivated 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who have a love for math and a desire to compete against other teams to showcase their talents. Students are taught and practice skills that they have not yet seen in their math classes. A curriculum, from The Art of Problem Solving series, is used to help prepare students for competitions. In ciphering competitions, speed and accuracy are factors, so these skills are practiced weekly. At tournaments, students compete on individual and team levels. Each member of the team is eligible to compete as an individual, regardless of their skill level. Team members strengthen existing skills and learn new math concepts, learn to work with other members of the team and enjoy the comradery of traveling and competing with their teammates.

Why Join PTSA?

The overall mission of the Challenger Middle School PTSA is to make every child’s potential a reality. By involving the family as well as the community, we can help our children have the best future possible.  As family members, volunteers, teachers and staff work together, we empower the community and family to create the best environment we can for our children to grow, learn and reach their potential.
